TECH ROLL – Retractable fly Screen Australia

There are various types of flyscreen. There are different types of mesh, different types of enclosures and different means of installation; all of which can be made permanent of movable, all of which can all be combined in several ways.

Materials:

Polyester/polypropylene

This is a cheap material and suitable for both fixed and movable applications. It keeps out all flying insects, but provides no security benefits to potential human intruders.

Aluminium

This is long lasting and strong, highly resistant to rust, and is as effective against insects as any other mesh. But as aluminium does not paint easily the bare metal look cannot be varied.

Stainless Steel.

This is by far the strongest mesh, and proves very difficult for potential thieves. Unlike other options it can also be coloured with powder coating. It is completely rust resistant unless exposed to very strong corrosive agents.

Movement:

Screens can be permanently fixed to the window or made retractable.

Hinged

Most flyscreen doors are hinged. Windows can effectively and inexpensively be made the same way. There needs to be sufficient room for the apparatus to swing open and shut, but otherwise this is an effective system of opening the whole window.

Sliding flyscreens

These are like sliding doors. Indeed, some large enclosures use sliding flyscreen doors. Windows are also very neatly done this way. They are moderately inexpensive and their only disadvantage is that they will only cover half of the available space; the other half is the space they slide into. As the other half is usually a fixed window that does not require a screen this is rarely a problem.

Retractable Fly Screen Australia

These are the most discreet option, short of removing the screen altogether. Flexible screens can retract into an enclosure and roll into a small space. Being controlled by an electronic remote or simple rods and cords these are the ultimate in convenience.

Alternately, some people prefer not to use screens at all in seasons where insects are not a problem. Magnetic screens easily attach to metal window frames, and can be rolled up and store elsewhere during the offseason.

SK FLOOR SANDING – FLOOR SANDING SYDNEY

sk floor sanding - floor sanding sydney

What advantages are there with polished floorboards?

Carpets do have some advantages – they can be warm on the feet in winter and softer on the feet. But polished wood remains popular, having tis won advantages.

Carpets are a habitat for dust mites. These can be removed with regular treatment, but they still build up between treatments.

Carpets can sometimes be bad for people with hay fever or asthma; dust hair and the aforementioned mites are hard to remove from carpet fibres. Some allergies seem unaffected by these factors, others are aggravated by them.

Small physical objects are easy to lose in carpets. Pins, screws, bead, jewellery, small pieces of Lego are easily lost in many carpets, and rather hard to recover. This is especially bad with the elderly. The problem is almost non-existent with hard floors.

Spills and stains are easier to clean off a hard floor, especially one that has been properly sealed. Carpets can be steam cleaned, but this takes time and costs money. In general carpets do require more cleaning.

Carpets are quite permanent. You can remove them, but they are a major investment. Harwood floors can be added to with little difficulty; you can put a rug down in winter for warmth, and then do something different in summer.

Carpets will reduce the noise of feet, but you can achieve the same effect on hard floors by using a rug. Many of the disadvantages of carpets (losing small items, being able to only clean form one side) are reduced with a rug.

Many types of flooring emit chemicals. These chemicals, their smell and their effects do dissipate over time, but they take longer with carpets. Eco-friendly carpets are a lot better in this regard. Search Google for method of reducing formaldehyde.

Decking timber sanding Sydney

Hard floor timber decking can be used outside and still last for decades. Nobody even considers using carpets outside. As Sydney has moderate weather (no snow and moderate summer heat) decking timber last very well. Re-sanding every decade will rejuvenate the appearance of wooden floors.

Floor Polishing Sydney

Good quality hardwood flooring can last for decades, often longer than the original owners. Regular polishing is recommended, if only for appearance sake. Re-sanding every ten years will make the floor look like new. Though they are initially expensive hardwood floors are extremely durable and long lasting.

Bamboo flooring is not as long lasting as hardwood, but it is far superior to many artificial substances, and improved treatments technology means the latest bamboo products are better than previous types. Periodically polishing bamboo flooring will restore it to the appearance it had when first installed.

CUSTOM DECALS

For most boys their first exposure to decals came through plastic model kits. Girls often first saw decals with novelty nail kits, or toy dolls, though these days a few girls also make plastic model kits. But initially decals were applied to pottery, and called decalcomania. They date back to at least 1865.

There was a craze for ceramics in the 1870s that help popularize the decals, even as other methods of decoration were also used. The direct descendants of these are the decorated fine china and tableware so ubiquitous today.

Even as porcelain and ceramics continued there was a decal craze in the late 19th century. This extended into personal décor but also high art. A few surrealists used decals to create famous works of art, though there is some confusion here as decalcomania can refer to several different artistic techniques.

Today decals have remained a steady background trend. They are so versatile they can be used to apply fine designs to almost anything.  A few examples are:

  • Guitar decals, for customizing.
  • Plastic models, for realistic recreations.
  • Wall designs, especially for modern looks.
  • Front panels
  • Hard cases for instruments or other important equipment
  • Cars, particularity sports cars
  • Personalized mugs
  • Computer cases

The advent of waterslide decal paper make waterslide decals easy to realize. Inkjet decal paper means any computer design image achievable in software can be turned into a physical image on a physical object.

The advent of modern 3D Printing will probably open up more areas for decals. 3D printing can provide virtually any shape; the decals can provide all the fine detail.

Roller Blinds

[GUEST POST]
Today’s post was supplied to us by Luna Deco. Luna Deco specialise in wallpaper, roller blinds and interior design in Perth.

An accurate measurement of your windows is necessary for a blind, but the matter is really quite simple.
Generally blinds are mounted on the window frame and cover the whole window recess, though it is possible to make the blind smaller and mount it inside the frame. An external mounted blind should overlap the recess to prevent light coming in.

WIDTH

There is the recess width, with is the internal dimensions inside the window frame. This will be the smallest width measurement.

There is the width of the frame itself; this tends to be the larger width measurement.

The width of the blind itself should be 75mm (3 inches) greater than the recess width to avoid light coming in. This is the EXACT BLIND WIDTH.

DROP

This is how far the blind comes down, the vertical dimension.
There is the internal dimension of the window inside the frame, this is the recess drop.

There is the external dimension of the frame, the largest measurement.

The EXACT BLIND DROP should extend 75mm (3 inches) past the top and bottom of the internal dimension of the window if you wish to successfully block out light.

If in doubt about what information you need to provide then provide a diagram with internal and external measurements. Unless you confuse feet with inches this should prevent any major problems.

Advantages of Steel Construction

In high school I really enjoyed my industrial and technology classes, more specifically “Engineering Studies”. I did engineering studies for four years and continue to do engineering with my degree. Till this day I still enjoy it, I like every aspect of it. One aspect of it being identifying a material’s properties.

Today’s guest post revolves around the advantages of steel construction. This post has been supplied by Balustrade & Pool Fencing Services – VOHC Sydney.

Advantages of Steel Construction

  1. Rapid Construction: The predictability and accuracy of steel components allow more rapid construction than similar sized concrete frames. This translates to less disruption to surrounding areas during construction, lower cost in reduced construction time. If the project is completed sooner the building will be operating as well as earning money sooner.
  2. Good Quality Steel is cheaper than it used to be, and prices tend to be stable. Even before you factor in the money saved in faster building times, steel is more economical to build with than other mediums.
  3. Steel is recyclable. There are no wasted offcuts. Steel is a green product
  4. Durability: Steel-framed structures are highly durable, and can last decades before refurbishment is needed. Modifications are always possible and are relatively easy.
  5. Safety: According to industry surveys, steel building construction has an excellent safety record.

From reading this, I remember in school that steel would be used to strengthen many structures as the steel would be used as a frame inside the concrete/cement.

Luna Deco Guest Post

There is a balance between making a bold statement and overpowering a room. If your room has windows then any decoration should be aimed at making the windows part of the room, and not simply a functional item that happens to be there.

Roller Blinds (or curtains for that matter) control the amount of light you want coming into a room. At the same time they also determine the amount of privacy. Separating these requires some pre planning. A translucent material will allow most of the light, and give almost complete privacy when drawn closed. A more solid material will either give complete privacy and complete light blockage when closed, or give maximum light and little privacy when opened. Mixing two types of material, in two different layers, allows several options depending on what is needed at the time. The same principle has been used with curtains for many generations; light material to let in some sunshine with heavy drapes that can be drawn at night.

Decorating the room’s window, as well as making it functional, is very much at the heart of the matter at our Perth Roller Blind Store. Modern ideas allow for countless options, as long as the blind either matches or contrasts with the rest of the room. Given the choice of blinds and the effect they have upon a room it makes a lot of sense to alter the room to fit the design of the blind.

Light is one of the most important factors in any room. Whether we are conscious of it or not our eyes are automatically drawn to the brightest part of a room. Ever notice how different some rooms look and feel in natural sunshine from the window compared to electric light in the middle of the room? This is a good reason to get the window decorations right, and to never have bare light-bulbs that draw our eyes to harsh light.

Consider giving your room a ‘psychological cleaning’; this means looking at what is essential and what is redundant. A sparser room tends to be better (unless you want creative chaos in a man-cave or art-room), and essential items can be stored under beds or other places, or beds folded into seating, if necessary. Think of how a blind or full wall decoration should work for you, and move the room around this idea. If in doubt use light, neutral colours. Anything is fine as long as it works with the main decoration. If your window or wall decoration has a theme, then the rest of the room can follow it. But remember, the room still has to work if your decorative blind is in the concealed/up position.

Part of the attraction in what we supply at our Perth Roller blinds store is the ability to go between two different look when a blind is opened or shut. Design a room so it works with a blind’s design, but can also work on its own merits when the blind is drawn.
